I’m a Partner here at Gerald Eve. My expertise is in providing advice, mainly from a valuation perspective. I have also valued specialist industrial sites such as docks and dry docks. I am a former member of the CBI Minerals Group and a former Governor of a University in Leeds.

I have advised UK companies on a wide range of property and estate matters and about different property types, including rate mitigation and management, capital and rental valuations, rent reviews, lease renewals, dilapidations, licenses for alterations, surrender, acquisitions and disposals, sale and leaseback and investment advice, including lease re-gears, compensation and CPO and fire insurance. In addition, I am an experienced negotiator of rating appeals, with emphasis on retail, industrial, warehouse, office and quarry properties. I am an experienced advocate and expert witness at Valuation Tribunal.

I work with Tarmac (Minerals and Waste), Aggregate Industries (Minerals and Waste), Breedon (Minerals and Waste), Boots (Leeds), Dobbies Garden Centre (Leeds), Flamingo Land (Leeds) and W Boyes & Co Limited (Leeds). I have advised clients about factories, large shops, garden centres, department stores, quarries and landfill sites, local authority properties such as theatres, schools, libraries and museums and leisure properties such as amusement parks and caravan sites.

MY RECENT PROJECTS

  • Valuation of a Brickworks for Balance Sheet Purposes – This instruction involved valuing two brickworks, one in the UK and one in Europe, for an established client. We value a proportion of this client’s portfolio on a regular basis for incorporation of asset values in published accounts.
  • In 2019 I prepared and reported a balance sheet valuation of an entertainment venue in Leeds, prepared using the receipts and expenditure valuation method.
  • Advice on compensation for mineral sterilisation – I provided advice to a Statutory Undertaker on the compensation that they might face for sterilisation of a clay mineral reserve if they did not move energy transmission apparatus which crossed a permitted mineral extraction area. This allowed the client to compare the cost of compensation with the alternative, which is to re-locate the apparatus.
