Simon is our managing partner and chairs the executive board. He has overall responsibility for managing the firm on a day-to-day basis.

He has considerable experience of advising heavy industrial clients together with operators of ports and airports. He brings a thorough understanding of the issues affecting the businesses in these sectors.

Simon has appeared as an expert witness in both the High Court and Lands Tribunal.

Specific experience

He is one of the UK’s leading specialists in the contractor’s basis of valuation (equivalent to depreciated replacement cost) which is the basis of valuation adopted for rating purposes for properties occupied by clients in the heavy industrial, port and airport sectors.

He was heavily involved in the Lands Tribunal test case, Monsanto v Farris, relating to Solutia’s chemical works in Newport, South Wales.

Advising Tata Steel in respect of Llanwern and Port Talbot steelworks on rating issues and compensation claims following the compulsory acquisition of land for major road schemes.

Working with Modern Terminals regarding an appeal to the Hong Kong Lands Tribunal relating to its container terminals within the Port of Hong Kong.

Advising Heathrow Airport on the largest single rating assessment in the UK.
