My main focus is on providing strategic business rates advice and minimising liabilities. I advise power generation clients on rating matters, with a particular focus on renewable energy, dealing with Contractors and Receipts & Expenditure valuations across England & Wales. My role also involves negotiating with the Utilities team at the Valuation Office especially regarding appeals on distribution warehouses for occupier and landlord clients in London, the South East and the South Midlands.

I’m also the client partner for a number of significant ratepayers, including liaising with them on rating strategy, serving and dealing with appeals, providing budgetary advice and updating clients on changes to rating law.

My major clients include; Energy – EDF, Greencoat Capital, Vattenfall, Eon, Uniper. Industrial – Brake Bros, Laing O’Rourke, Keltbray, Kerry Foods.

MY RECENT PROJECTS

• Food distribution warehouse, Harlow – I advised a client on rate mitigation measures to take whilst a full-scale refurbishment of a second- hand chilled food distribution warehouse was being undertaken. On their behalf we served appeals to delete and reduce for the period of the works. We achieved rates saving for our client of circa £450,000.
• Portfolio of solar photovoltaic sites – I advised a client on the 2010 List and recommended serving appeals to reduce the level of assessment on their solar PV sites. We achieved savings for the client in the region of £700,000 across the 2010 and 2017 Lists.
• Print works, Oxfordshire – I advised a client regarding mitigating their liability on a 20,000 sqm redundant print works in Oxfordshire. We achieved savings for the client of £500,000.
